Basic Skills Course in Microsurgery

The purpose of this course on microsurgical training is to develop specialized surgical skills to facilitate the performance of basic microsutures techniques in experimental surgery (small bowel or vessels anastomosis).

Session 1: 10:00 – 11:00

Welcome by the Course Director and brief description of course contents and teaching format.

Video session:   a) Microscope adjustment.
b) Holding microsurgical instruments.
c) Picking up the needle.
d) Stitch placement and knotting techniques – basic concepts

Session 2: 11:15 – 12:45

Different suture and knotting techniques on pieces of latex glove, rubber and silicone tubes (1,5 hr).


Session 3: 13:45 – 15:15

Practice of end-to-end anastomosis using a small bowel ex vivo model (1,5 hr).


Session 4: 15:30 – 17:00

Practice of end-to-end anastomosis using chicken leg model (1,5 hr).

 

Good Clinical Practice

Description

The Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course is designed to prepare research staff in the conduct of clinical trials with human participants.

The course is a current and comprehensive guide to the basic principles of ICH Good Clinical Practice. It reviews and demonstrates the principles of GCP including current regulations and meets the requirements for GCP training as set down in the ICH guidelines.

The course was designed by Prof. René H. Tolba who has 20 years' experience up to Principal Investigator level in a University Hospital. He is currently Full Professor of Laboratory Animal Science and Experimental Surgery at the RWTH Aachen University, Germany.
